How do I tell if transferring purchases from Ipad to PC worked?

I thought I did it succesfully, but when I try to update to I.O.S. 6 a popup says that I haven't and asks if I still want to continue. I tried transferring them again but the "Sync" screen on my Ipad quickly flashes & disappears and nothing else happens making me think that there is nothing more to transfer. Where can I see the transferred files on iTunes to confirm that they transferred and/or why am I getting the message that they are not transferred before I try to update the I.O.S?

Thanks for any help!

iPad 2, Other OS, version 4.3.5 - is that 4.3?

Thanks, but that was the page I was working from to transfer purchases originally. I followed the directions for the section that starts, "If when you connect your device you are not prompted by the dialog above..." But it doesn't explain how to confirm if the files were actually transferred, which I need to find out since iTunes is giving me the message that I still need to transfer purchases before updating.

I did that, but unfortunately I am still getting the same popup message. Am I supposed to reset my ipad first? I think on the top of the Apple update instructions page it said something about needing to erase and and reset if I am updating from less than I.O.S. 5.1, but I didn't know how to do that and the initial prompt to update on the iTunes page didn't give me that option first before I got the popup. Is there some other way to update from iTunes?

Thanks, but my iTunes page does not look quite like that. It does not have the version box. Instead, in the right side of the top box where it lists info about the Ipad it says I have I.O.S. 4.3.5. and says a newer version is available and has two boxes - "Update" and "Restore iPad..." If I click the Restore one, will it erase my current apps from the Ipad? And if so, is that what I should do? (is that why I keep getting the popup message - because they are supposed to be erased?)

Thanks. I had already done the backup. So do you think I'm safe? I don't understand why Apple says "To update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from iOS 4 to iOS 5 or later, you must erase and restore your device first, before completing the update" on the top of the page I linked to. Am I supposed to do that manually or will it do that automatically when I choose either "update" or "restore"?
