Images missing replaced by a blue box and white question mark

Hello, I've been having this problem for some time now. Was running SL, and upgraded to ML 10.8.4 but to no avail. I've tried most of the online resolves but so far no change.

Some websites show a blue box with a white question mark instead of images or links/actions to click on. I also encounter the same missing images sometimes in emails.

I've tried resetting Safari and emptying the cache, validating the fonts, uninstalling Adobe flash and reinstalling, same goes for Java, adding different advised DNS servers but so far I can't seem to fix it.

Having read through many threads on different blogs/forums it seems to be a problem on many devices and many different Mac OS's.

Would appreciate any help.

Rgds,

Mike.

Step 1

From the Safari menu bar, select

Safari Preferences Extensions

Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. Its settings will revert to their defaults. If the extension still causes a problem, remove it permanently or refer to its developer for support.

Step 2

If the Develop menu isn't showing in the Safari menu bar, select

Safari Preferences... Advanced Show Develop menu in menu bar

Uncheck any checked items in the menu that start with the word "Disable." You can then go back to the Preferences window and disable the Develop menu itself, if you wish.

Patval,

Yep, i get the blue box on that page as well. I've had this same problem since the moment I bought my MacBook Pro, so one really does have to wonder why the heck Mac has not solved the problem. Like most people I've tried most of the suggested fixes (ones that a normal citizen can be expected to understand, that is) and still no luck.

The kicker for me was when I used iPhoto , and Flickr, services owned by Apple or recommended by iPhoto

itself, to post pictures on a web forum I belong to, and ended up being the only person on the forum who could not see my own pictures.

To be honest, somehow I don't picture Apple ever fixing this problem. Which is pretty bad, considering the fact that it seems to be a problem that's been around forever, and one that seems to plague all Mac owners. 😠
