Q: I just got a dash cam for my car, the format is H.264, all the files end in .AVI, when I try to open them I only get audio no video. I don't need the audio, just want the video. The message I get says I need a codec to see the video. What missing files do

I can't open my AVI files and see video, I only hear the audio with a black screen. My format for my dash cam is H.264. When I try and open my files the messeage I get is

The document “DR153659.AVI” could not be opened. A required codec isn't available.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.0.x)

It's most likely in VLC or Perian, but may not exist for Mac OS X.

I loaded VLC and dragged my videos from the Dash Cam over to VLC and I was able to open and view the video with audio too. THX
