iPod has stopped playing music and a large red cross (plus the Apple web address) has appeared on screen

My iPod was playing as normal on a speaker system. It stopped playing for a moment and then continued. After this, music stopped playing. I restarted the iPod and a large red cross along with the web address for Apple support appeared.



Should I try restoring it, or does it need taking to Apple?
