Occassionally (and too frequently) my screen moves left and right then my mouse stops working. I can hit esc and this usually fixes things. Until I do I can move the cursor but selections don't work. Super irritating. Can someone explain this? Thanks!
iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4), Same thing occurred in 10.7 too
Make sure Zoom is not enabled in System Preferences > Accessibilty > Zoom

I'm not sure it was. "Smooth images" was the only thing under Zoom that was turned on. But now that you emntion it, I think it was happening when the pointer got to the edge of the screen,s o maybe this is related.

A Safe Mode boot clears some system caches that may help.
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes a longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
See if that makes a difference.
OK, terrific. Thanks for the ideas. I rebooted into safe mode then simply rebooted. I should know soon if this worked and will let you know!

Thank you for this - I have been plagued by the sliding screen thing for years and, finally, someone has told me how to fix it. Now to see if I can stop the mouse freezing too.
