Q: Help please printing, or converting an AW file.

I'm afraid I can't open them: I get the message 'An I/O error occured', whatever that means, even after adding the .cwk extension.

If you drag them onto the TextEdit icon in the Dock you will see a lot of formatting garbage, but also the text contents of the file, if that's any help.

It occurs to me that the process of uploading them to Dropbox may have removed the 'resource fork' - a part of the file which Windows, and possibly the Dropbox upload, doesn't recognize, and which Apple don't use now but did with AW. Try zipping them and re-uploading them. I can try again that way. Place them all in a folder and zip the folder, so that it's all one upload/download.

I put in http://www.loria.fr/~alonso/test.zip the result of the conversion using libmwaw, the not-perfect filter which will appear in LibreOffice 4.1.1, hoping that this will suffice.

Note: there are very old ClarisWorks files but there seem correct to me...

These work in TextEdit and show formatted text without the coding - the filter seems to have worked pretty well though obviously only the OP can confirm if everything he wants is there. If they were originally ClarisWorks files that might have been the problem - I don't know how far back AW6 will open.

I test some with AppleWorks 6.2.2 on 10.6.8 : "chant ( page 6 )", "couverture..." and it accepts to open them.

The conversion of "couverture..." is not good ( ie. many characters formatting are loose, I will try to understand why later ), the others seem correct to me...

I'm using AW 6.2.9 on 10.6.8 so I don't know how much difference that makes - it certainly wouldn't open them (and Pages said that it was a wrong version of AW - if they are ClarisWorks that's to be expected). Possibly 6.2.9 doesn't have the translators.

I do not find where the AppleWorks converter are, but in AppleWorks Help, I find:

"Types of file formats that AppleWorks can read"

AppleWorks 6 can import and export a variety of documents created in other application programs.

do you try to download the converted files in http://www.loria.fr/~alonso/test.zip ? Normally, they must open either in OpenOffice or in LibreOffice ....

Note: If you want to try the new CWK filter in LibreOffice, the only solution is to wait that LibreOffice 4.1.1 RC1 appears on the LibreOffice server ( or to download the nightly build version in http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/libreoffice-4-1/MacOSX-10.8@21-10.7SDK/ , I tested 2013-08-10_15.13.23/ yesterday, so at least this one must work )

I've downloaded your folder: this time the files have the AW icon and double-clicking on them will cause AW to try to open then, so I was right about the resource fork. However I'm still getting 'I/O error' so I can't actually open them.

It appears that some Clarisworks 4 files will not open in AW 6.2.9. and give this error; there's no clear explanation.

Perhaps fosnola can open them in 6.2.2 and convert to PDF.
