iCal ignores Mail and iCal settings supposed to prevent spam events

I've set "Add invitations to iCal" to "NEVER" in Mail.

In iCal I've unticked "Automatically retrieve invitations from Mail"

However, I still get iCal spam events turning up in my calendars on almost a daily basis. Grrr!!!

I'm running Mac OS 10.6.8.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Core 2 Duo), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
