I've got a iPhone 5 but I've found a crack straight through the middle

I've had my iPhone 5 for about 2 weeks and today I've found a crack not on the corner but starting from one of the sides going straight through the middle I don't know how it happend and I want to know if its a fault and if I can get my screen repaired free of charge
