Q: A1138 superdrive not recognized

My superdrive one day did not display a disc, and then would not eject the disc, and then disappeared from the ATA connection..

    The least expensive and most useful diagnostic step is to buy a drive cleaning disk. They are usually US$5-15 at computer shops and home electronics stores. A dirty drive is not uncommon in notebooks with slot-loading drives. Dust and lint can occlude the lenses and make the drive appear dead.

     

    If that does not help, you will need a new drive.
