Every time I try to update my iphone to iOS 6.1.2 on my computer

Every time I try to update my iphone to iOS 6.1.2 on my computer an error occurs saying there is not enough space on my computer to back it up? Despite my settings specifically backing up to icloud and NOT the computer. As soon as the error occurs it stops the update and gives me no other option other than to close the box. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks

As far as photos an contacts, it should be fine, but any apps that are not compatible with iOS 6.1.3, may not function as they should.

it's up the to app developers to update their apps for iOS updates.

Any data you have stored in iCloud is used on your computer. Calendars, apps, photos, etc. That takes up drive space.

iCloud is for storage only.
