My wife and I each have iPhones through AT&T. When the next iPhone comes out in about a month we will be getting new ones. Should I purchase our phones through Apple (online), AT&T online or AT&T store? Iām guessing that getting the phones through Apple will give me a better chance of getting the phones but I donāt know what is involved in getting the phones associated with my accounts.
Any recommendations?

If you buy from Apple they can activate the phone on your AT&T account for you. As roaminggnome says, use whichever store is more convenient. Apple staff know a lot more about the iPhone than AT&T, however, so keep that in mind.
one more point to consider - if you are planning on buying an unlocked iPhone ( not locked to any carrier) - you have to by it from Apple (store or online) - if you buy an iPhone from ST&T (no matter what you pay for it - if you arent elligible for a subsidy) the phone will be locked to AT&T

When I purchased my iPhone 4S i bought it at the Apple store and then walked to the AT&T store to make sure everything transerred over. They had so much trouble trying to undo whatever it is that the Apple genius did. I was talking with the guy about how the Apple store said that everything would be fine and he mentioned that so many people come into his store with the same problem.
You get the same phone, same price, but they know the network better. As they should. Apple knows Apple, but AT&T knows AT&T
It does not matter at all.
Buy from whomever is more convenient.

If you purchase from Apple & have existing AT&T accounts, the phones will come pre-activated. All you have to do is turn them one & complete the activation process.
I say check them both out.
When I did I discovered that AT&T would give me twice as much as Apple for my old iPhone 4.
