My Mac Pro tower quad core crashed and is showing a NO sign (the circle with a slash through it). How do I safely get it to come back up ? Model A1186

Where are your bootable backups and clones stored?
What do you have to boot from to restore or attempt to recovery files that are not backed up?
It won't be a PowerMac. People tend to think they look alike? or mean the same thing.

Try zap PRAM and SMC Reset. If you have ATI 5770 which many have upgraded to you won't be able to use older DVD or systems than 10.6.5
Thank you Hatter. I sent it to a MAC guy and we are having trouble retrieving data from the boot drive as it will not mount. May have to send it to a place that specializes in data recovery. It could get expensive. Totally bummed.
sorry to hear that. did you try Data Rescue 3?. I don't work for them or for Apple, but I had good results with that before, and I had the same kinda problem you did. Boot drive wouldn't mount, thought I was going to have to send it in and pay $$$. I did however, have to buy a hard drive to backup to, and make sure at least Leopard was on there

Alsoft people and their Disk Warrior 4 might have better luck and then try DR3. Also SoftRAID 4
