My HP printer is not recognizing my MAC with USB port

I recently updated my operating system and now my printer doesn't recognize my computer. The printer works with other computers but not this one. Help

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4), HP 6500 Office Jet

You can open a utility called System Information, which is located in Applications > Utilities. With System Information open, in the left column you will see a number of entries. Select the one labelled USB. The top right pane will then show all the USB busses on your Mac. With the printer connected to the Mac via USB cable, the printer should be listed under one of the USB busses. If you don't see it, try another USB port or another USB printer cable. Once the printer does appear under one of the USB busses, then you will be able to try to add the printer.
