No sound or vibration on my iphone 4s

After I got the screen on my iphone replaced by a friend 2 months ago (does it a lot for many people - no complaints), my vibration was always a bit weaker, but the sound on both ends was still fine. But just today my vibration and sound just quit on me. Nothing works... calls, alerts, games, ringtones... they are all silent (and don't vibrate). When i get a call and answer, no sound comes out on the ear speaker or the speakers near the bottom of the phone. I'm wondering if the replacement or the small chip in the ear speaker that occured during the original screen crack have anything to do with this, even though my phone has been working fine for a good 2 months. Or perhaps this is a problem that cannot be fixed? Sound doesnt even get coaxed out by earphones or auxillary cords hooked up to my car. Please help if you can! if you don't have a solution

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.1.4

There are a few things you can try, first of restart the phone (hold the lock button untill you see the bar then slide to power off).

Erase all settings from Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings.

Backup and restore via iTunes on a computer.

There is a reason it costs a little more to get it repaired through apple. All apple repairs are covered by a 3 month repair warranty for things exactly like this. You may still be able to get it fixed by apple but they dont always accept devices with third party tampering.

Hi laurenlangus and others,

I have the same problem with my sisters iPhone 4s, i could never find the answer to this question until i did a test, here are some things i noticed, is your iPhone 4s wearing any hard cases or is always in a cramped position when you hold it? when i took my sisters iPhone 4s out its hard case i noticed the sound was working again, i put it on again and noticed that the vibration and sound stopped working again. therefore i took it out and replaced it with another case my sister had. once in a while while wearing that case it started acting up again. so here's what i did, i turned the phone all the way off, i left it off for 5 minutes minimum. when i turned it back on the apple logo appeared and during the process the iPhone will vibrate indication it will be on. push the ringer down and if it vibrates your sound should be working too. i did this for quite a while. then after like two weeks of doing it i noticed that if it still continues when for example you are listening to music and it stops working, take off earbuds (if plugged in), pause music, take off the case (if you think that's the problem, and leave it alone for a max of two minutes. the minimum iv'e seen it happen was like 10-30 seconds of it being alone. i hope this works for those who have the problem. Good luck.
