Java: There is no check box for "enable applet plugin and web start applications" under the general tab for Java preference. I run snow leopold and has Java SE6. I don't know if Java runtime is installed and don't know how to

I am a complete novice and I tried to load a webpage that apparently runs Java applet. When I do that, the site gives a message saying "Applet would not initialize" even though it seems that the Java is enabled in my browser. I checked some discussion links and some seem to suggest that I need to check the checkbox "enable appletplugin and web start applications" under Java preference. I went to the general tab but there is no such checkbox.

Run now, under Java preference it shows that I run Java SE6 1.6.0_51 but I can't see Java Runtime. I tried downloading Java runtime 6 but can't find a source on google. Please help!

What about the Security & Advanced tabs? Did you check those?

After the installations, repair permissions and restart your computer.

If your java problems are while using Safari, you need to post in that forum area.
