Oct 14, 2013 3:22 AM in response to Anthony Raguseaby olgv,Solved it.
After a pointless 37 minutes on the phone with Apple support, I decided to bite the bullet and follow the export/import method suggested by "Anthony" and negated by "Tony4Tony".
1. Backuped everything (File > Export > Calendar Archive) ... just to be sure.
2. Exported buggy calendar on the desktop ('CalName') (1a.Select the calendar / 1b.File > Export > Export...)
3. Created new calendar ('CalName_2')
4. Import the calendar exported at point 2 (File > Import > Import...)
!!! When do so be sure you select in which calendar you want to import the exportet events (you are popped up with a window to selct the calendar, select the new created calendar, don't just go: OK, OK as probably "Tony4Tony" did and ended up in chaos.
5. Delete buggy calendar (CalName)
6. Rename and change color of new calendar.
!!! Wait between each steps for the settings to sync in iCloud. Wait longer if bigger the calendar's content. Not a bad idea to have your iCloud Calendar opened on the side in Safari so you see what exactelly is going on, on iCloud's side.
What I also did before this export/import operation (advised by the Apple support) was to turn off "Calendars&Reminders" (System Preferences > iCloud) so all the content of the Calendar gets cleaned (the same went for iOS).
Basically iCloud is buggy with some old calendars and you need to make new ones... and import the old content.
Thanks go to "Anthony",
Cheers,

Oct 14, 2013 5:01 AM in response to Anthony Raguseaby Swisscarl,Unfortunately, with the method mentioned by Anthony, I loose the "actions" (like sending e-mails at a specific date and time) from within my calendar, so for me that method does not work, sorry to say.

Oct 14, 2013 5:14 AM in response to moirafromsugar landby Jake_Worf,Apple has to fix this ! Not the user himself ! Consequence of exporting calendars could be data loss.
Calendars are NOT buggy - SOmething wen't wrong on servers
This ist no longer a joke. Apple should tell a developer to make a few clicks to resolve this issue.

Oct 14, 2013 12:44 PM in response to moirafromsugar landby Justin Janson,I think Apple is too busy with designing their Spaceship Campus rather than giving some support. This is the official Apple Support Community, right? Or are we talking to Microsoft here?
Knock, knock. Somebody there? Apple? Please, fix my fancy calendar colors!

Oct 15, 2013 12:57 PM in response to moirafromsugar landby chaure,Still not working. I've tried all solutions presented here, but color keeps defaulting to purple (work) and blue (home). After a few seconds after changing the color, it defaults back to purple. Some users have claimed that it is now working for them, I guess, I'm among the ones where reset or delete are not working.

Oct 15, 2013 1:16 PM in response to chaureby Bobby Clark,Chaure,
My brute force method that worked for me... Here is what I did,
1) Create new calendar (don't, rename the old calendar that didn't seem to work for me)
2) Move your event to that new calendar (Unfortunately you have do this one event a time).
-- It helps to just view the calendar in a year or month view so you don't miss anyone)
3) Once you sure all event s you care keep are with the new Calendar, delete the old calendar...
--- Mkae sure you moving everything - it will delete events still on the calendar - BE CAREFUL-
4) Now you can rename and select a different color and it does change.
Hope that helps!
(Apple -- you still need to fix this... )

Oct 16, 2013 12:49 PM in response to olgvby Tony4Tony,This answer is THE ANSWER. He even figured out why my negation of the solution was innaccurate. It's a very easy slip up to press "enter" too quickly while your default selected a DIFFERENT calendar in-between export, then import steps. I imported into the default calendar, NOT the new blank calendar I had just created.
Having said all of that, the problem does indeed seem solved.
