I just deleted everything from my Mac due to errors I discussed in another thread. I now need to get iPhoto pictures from a backup I took before resetting the computer. How can I copy individual pictures across?

This has nothing to do with iPhoto for the Mac - how you restore a backup is dependent on how you created the backup - if you are using Time Machine (a good choice for a primary backup) then us launch Time Machine, in its "finder looking" window go to the time you want to restore from, select the files/folders/packages you wnat to restore and click restore

Or can I just copy the Photo Library file to and replace the one of which I have now? Would that work? As I have made a new account... With a slightly different name (and nothing in it)...

how you restore a backup is dependent on how you created the backup
If you created it by copying it to an external drive then you can copy it back - if you did it using backup software then you need to read the manual for the software you used

Impossible for anyone to answer I'm afraid. How you restore a back up depends entirely on how you made it. So, as we don't know what you did, we can't advise you.
I used time machine, of course! It's one of the best softwares apple are responsible for! It's brilliant!

Then no, you can't just copy it over. You need to use the Time Machine restore function.
