There is a profile on my Time Capsule named "wheel. I tried everything to get rid of it, including resetting my Time Capsule to factory settings but it came back. Who is "wheel?" Where is this from?

I was trying to delete a backed up file in Time Machine; something I've done before. I found that even though I'm signed as administrator, it's my Mac, my Time Machine, and my Time Capsule, and no one but me has ever had access to it (to my knowledge unless it was done via the Internet), I could not delete the file because it said I didn't have authority. Huh?! So, I started looking and found that I only have read authority for this file that I had just created and was backed up to my Time Capsule while I was working. Huh?! x2 Then, I found a profile named "wheel." Although it only has read authority, why do I want "wheel" to be able to read my files? So, I tried to delete him but couldn't and cannot change his authority to no access. Frustrated, I bit the bullet and reset my Time Capsule to factory. I had expected that this would erase EVERYTHING on the Time Capsule and reset it to factory defaults. It did not. I had to reenter my password but the backup files are still there and "wheel" is still there. Even more annoying is the fact that my Time Capsule has a double channel capability (2 Wi-Fi channels by the same name except that one is x and the other x5MHz). AND my OWN profile no longer exists (the one with my name on it). Arrgh! I can fine no literature on this on the apple site. Can someone please tell me WHAT is going on?

Thanks.

Wheel is internal firmware access I think.. you cannot delete or change it in any way.

And is irrelevant.

Did you copy the file to the sparsebundle instead of a new directory under the main share of the TC.. inside a sparsebundle you can copy files in but you cannot delete or do anything else to the file.. plus you may damage the backup.

If you created a new directory and now cannot delete the file.. try from another computer. Or use windows.. windows can delete anything. It seems to get around permissions. Bad I suppose but good in others.. otherwise you need to log in to terminal and delete.. using root access. but I do not have the command.

No reset of the TC wipes the hard disk. you wipe the hard disk in the utility using erase. Go to the disk area of the airport utility and select erase.. do a quick erase as any other will take hours or weeks.. or months for the last one.. 35 pass erase.. that is for when you are holding the ICBM launch codes in your TC.

You can set whatever name you like for the wireless.

When you reset the TC you wiped out your profile..
