Q: XXX installer.app can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer

The message continues as follows:

 

Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers.

 

How do I change my security preferences to allow me to choose what I wish to open?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8), iPhone 5

    Control-click it and choose Open. Alternatively, open the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, click on the General tab, unlock the pane, and set it to allow applications from anywhere.

    Open Security & Privacy preferences. Click on the General tab. At the bottom you will see:

    Click on the lock icon and enter your admin password. Select the bottom button, "Anywhere."

    Thanks Niel and Kappy,

     

    I figured out the Control-click but overlooked the option under Security & Privacy. I opened the panel but missed it
