Sata drive to USB for my MacBook Air

So I have a SATA drive from my old PC with ALL of my stuff on it. I plan on taking it out of it and then selling my PC. Could I get a adapter for my SATA drive then hook it up to my MacBook Air and use it as a external? Or what would I have to do here?

Thanks,

Nick

It's an option. Also, you can use an enclosure, where you can put the HDD and connect it to a USB port, but it's more expensive.

In this case, buy a USB to SATA cable to connect the HDD to the MacBook Air, and you will be able to read everything which is in the HDD. Note that it's quite possible that you won't be able to write in it, as it may be using NTFS. You will have to use an application like Paragon NTFS or format the HDD in order to write in it

If you want to use it as an external, make sure it is not formatted as an NTFS. You will not be able to write to it on your MAC without third party software (ie Paragon). The drive will need to be reformatted to be OS X R/W compatible. Once the data is transferred, reformat the drive as HFS+, GUID partition table with disk utility.

In terms of components:

You will need a Sata > USB cable. If you want to continue using the drive as an external, you should purchase an enclosure for the drive.
