I've got 161gb of free space out of 500. Here are the things I have tried to remedy this situation; none of which have worked:

1. cleared hard disk space

2. removed every other project from the "imovie projects" folder

3. restarted countless times

4. cleared all of my preferences from the imovie pref system folder

5. tried exporting from the project screen instead of the standard tool bar

This problem exposes an incredible deficiency in Apples product.

There was a very strange solution that worked for me. Apparently if you do the following:
1. create a new project in iMovie

2. put a clip in it

3. go back out into the Project Selection screen

4. move the new project to Trash

5. try exporting your problemed project using QuickTime

It only worked RIGHT AFTER I moved the new project to the trash, and not any more times for some reason. It was very bizarre.
