How do I open logical port 16384?

I use Connected Backup to store my data in the cloud and recently encountered a problem when trying to retrieve a file. The support staff walked me through the uninstall/reinstall of their software, but then could not get a connection to my computer. They told me I need to have logical ports 16384 and 16386 open for the software to work properly--but they could not tell me how to find out what the port status is or how to open or close a specific port.

After some digging, I used the Network Utility in OS version 10.7.5 to scan for open ports and discovered that 16386 is already open, but 16384 is not. How do I change the setting for port 16384? I don't have any third party firewall software running on the machine, although I believe my Verizon FIOS router has some firewall protection built into it.

Hi, you can disable the Firewall in Security, or add that App with the tiny plus icon there, or...

I'm not running any firewall software on the Mac; I never activated the OS firewall.

I did go into the FIOS router software and tweaked its firewall to open 16384, but still no joy. Oddly enough, the backup still worked overnight even though the backup software was unable to sync after I reinstalled it. Problem is, Ican't retrieve anything, which defeats the purpose of a backup...
