FireWire is a data port, so you can't use it. However, Thunderbolt is compatible with Mini DisplayPort, so you can buy a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable to connect the Mac to your TV.

Alternatively, you can get a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable and you will save some money and space. This hasn't been tested, so I recommend you the first option

Hello,

I have bought a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and plugged it on my macbook (using my Thunderbolt port) to my HDTV (using the HDMI input port) but the HDTV does not detect any signal? I tried on other HDMI ports of my HDTV, and on another HDTV, but it seems there is no signal detected by the HDTV coming from my macbook.

Do I have to install a specific driver? Do I have to select a specific Display from my macbook?

What shall I do to see my macbook screen on my HDTV using the above port configuration? (I have no HDMI port nor MiniDisplay port on my macbook).

Thanks.

Exactly what adapter did you buy (your link goes to an Apple support page) ... and exactly what model MacBook do you have ... and exactly what make & model HDTV do you have ... what cable are you using from the adapter to your TV ... and are you using any additional adapters or plugs?

There is no special display driver; this should work as soon as you plug everything in and select the proper input on your TV.

Hello, thanks for your rapid answer.

I have a macBook Pro (15"), with a Intel 2,3Ghz Core I7. 4Go 1700 Mhz DDR3. NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 512 Mo, and OS X 10.8.4.

I have the following ports: FireWire 800, Thunderbolt, USB 3 (x2), SDXC card slot, audio In and audio out (headphones).

I bought a Belkin Mini DisplayPort to HDTV Cable (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5240103?answerId=22742775022#22742775022&ac_cid=op123456#22742775)

I have an HD TV from LG 32LH3000, with 3 HDMI inputs. I regularly use one of these HDMI input to watch movies, stored on an HDD.

Thanks again for your help.

You can use a Minidisplayport->HDMI hooked into the Thunderbolt's socket. Please note:

1) if you have TB periphehals attached, the Minidisplay port can be attached to the chain BUT as last. No matter what peripherals, the display will work as connected directly. Thunderbol is an excellent protocol.

2) many Full HD TV/display, TB apart, do display an horrible image. You need to modify a file which contains the parameters - if I'n not wrong - of the EDID. Sorry, I don't have the link on this machine, check into the forum.

Cheers

Simon
