Q: Why won't my battery charge now that I have a brand new power cord?

I just got a new power cord in the mail and i plugged in my laptop and it turns on, but the battery wont charge. its telling me "service battery" but i don't understand why i should have to. i dont understand why it wont charge but it will turn on
