A lot of album artwork gone

I plugged my iPod into the computer to charge it and then a lot of the album artwork disapeared. I have restarted my ipod and macbook air, re sync it, and aftere I deleted all my music and put it back on more album work was missing. I've done everything I can think of besides restore my iPod which I really don't want to do
