Erased hard drive, installation discs are not working, what should I do?

Hi, I have erased all the data from my imac that was running OS X 10.6.8, now I am trying to use the installation discsto restore the computer to factory settings, but I can't, it won't let me, it says it is version 10.6.7, which I assume it might be too old. I might have the wrong installation discs, but I can't find any other discs, can anyone help me? Does anyone knows what to do?

Should I download OS X Mountain Lion? If so, i would have to do from another computer, how do I then install it in the computer that is erased? Discs?

Thanks for you attention, I hope someone can help me.

Cheers

I might have the wrong installation discs

You should be using the system DVDs that originally came w/your comp. See KB Article: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH6817Mac OS X 10.6: Restoring your computer’s software

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.

If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html Another resource: International Support Phone #s.
