I have the same issue with some of mine, I assume that they have some sort of protection on them. Even though they aren't iTunes purchases you should be able to copy them over to the Books part of your computer's iTunes library via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases and you can then email them from your computer.

That would make it non mobile in order for it to happen. I just wish Apple would fix the issue. The file is nothing that has to be purchased. It's just a PDF that was emailed to me that I would like to keep in my organized iBooks to be able to email it from there. Or put them in my adobe reader. I'll just have to create a mailbox folder to hold these types of files. Then I'll have to remember which is where, therefore adding complication to something that should be simple. Whatever the reason may be, it should be fixed. I mean I know it's not a big deal but to not have stupid little problems like this is way I choose iOS over android.

You can leave feedback for Apple via this page, but I see it as being an issue with those PDFs having a 'protect flag' set on them, not with the iBooks app : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ibooks_ios.html

Perhaps not. Same PDF in adobe reader can email it just fine. One app can and one can not. For me that is a problem with the app. To me it's the app saying "since this PDF is locked for editing and even though its not purchased I'm going to go ahead and say you can't email it even though that's how I recevied it." I'm just saying if I can transfer it in for free through email, I should be able to send it out the same way.

Yes, I am having the same problem. I transferred purchases via Device right click, and out of over 900 files, only 500 were transferred. When I tried to email each file manually, I cannot find the 'email' icon under the Share icon. Like you, they were not purchased files but more are the PDF files I had for my own reference. I couldn't find any particular in Get Info box either. t don't know why Apple makes things so complicated.

I'm beginning to suspect that the problem might be that files of a certain size can be emailed in, but that there is a smaller limitation on the size of the files which are permitted to be emailed out. In a similar way that you can email any number of images to your iPad as long as they don't exceed the ISPs email attachment file size limitation - usually about 35mb - but when it comes to emailing images back out again you are limited by iOS to only 5 images per email, no matter what the total file size. I've got countless PDFs which are basically 'trapped' on the iPad unless I do a sync with a computer - which is very annoying. All Apple would have to do to fix this problem would be to allow a larger attachment file size allocation. Please do this soon Apple - because it's a very annoying and completely unnecessary limitation, which can really stuff you up work wise when on the move.

These are user-to-user forums, Apple are not here. It's not just size, I have PDFs that are under 10 meg that can't be emailed. If you want to leave feedback for Apple : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ibooks_ios.html

I've had a good look at the offending PDFs with Acrobat Pro and other PDF creator/editor apps, and can't find any form of file protection. I've also edited and created many of them myself, and certainly didn't add any file protection to the ones I created from scratch (and not all of the files I created are affected, and yet I created them all in exactly the same way) - and I've saved and emailed them on a Mac without any difficulty - and no one I have emailed them to has had any problems either, other than in iBooks on an iPad - no one using an android device or PC has mentioned any problems (although no one has mentioned problems on iPhones or iPod Touches that may be only because none of us really use them for that, the screens being too small for practical use - I'll check it out though - but I suspect there will be a similar problem). By a process of logical elimination the problem must be with iBooks on the iPad, or with the iOS, as I don't encounter this problem with those particular files anywhere else. As to the question of whether 'Apple are here', if I designed an app and there was a user forum I would think it expedient to check it out occasionally to see what problems users may have with it - it would make a good free tool for testing it out and finding problems without doing the work myself. If Apple don't 'dip in' occasionally it would actually be very surprising indeed - unless of course they don't actually care what problems we have with their apps, just as long as we keep paying - and I must admit that with their track record I have started to wonder about that :-)
