Kernel Panic

Question

I recently have had a few kernel panic situations. They seem to be related to memory. I had all the memory sticks changed to a "matched" set by OWC. I have 10Gb RAM. I ran the Apple Hardware Test and the REMBER test with no indication of a problem. Does anyone have a suggestion? I do not trust OWC FBDIMMs and their price vs Amazon. but watch temps and see, and do some tests2600XT anytime I see one, my advice is time to go and get ATI 5770 .

Your Mac Pro uses Fully-Buffered DIMMs (FBDIMMs). The Xeon processor has the hardware assists needed to do on-the-fly single-bit error correction. If you ran a diagnostic for a while, whatever the diagnostic found or did not find has no bearing on whether your memory failed. As listed in the report you posted, at the moment before the report was saved, your memory failed with a double-bit uncorrectable memory error.Your Mac Pro has Hardware memory error detection. EVERY read from memory is checked as the system runs. Your Mac detected an uncorrectable error.

In light of two new KP events, I wonder about the "memory being bad" theory : originally, I purchased this refurbished MacPro 8 core from Apple equipped with 2GB memory. Very soon afterwards, I installed a further 8GB RAM from OWC, a well known and trusted supplier. This was in 2008. All was well until last may. Started having problems with the Mac not recognizing all the RAM. OWC replaced the sets twice, assuring me that the sets where matched pairs of 2GB memory sticks. No problems until the first Kernel Panics, on august 8th. Lost of email, testing, KP events later, OWC is replacing yet again the RAM sticks. I am now running on the original 2GB Apple RAM until the replacements arrive. But, low and behold, there have been two new kernel panics since then!Could the Apple RAM be responsible? Or is there a problem with the CPU? The moterboard? FBDIMMs use to run too hot, die and suffer stress from hot-cold-hot fatigue. OWC when it comes to FBDIMMs.... can be trouble and costing more. Amazon has FBDIMMs for $30 2x2GB and even if you choose the 667MHz they work and can&#x27;t notice the difference over 800MHzAlso just because they were Apple, my OEM Apple FBDIMMs went and summers and if they have been working for 3 yrs could just need to be replaced.

Kernel Panics continue to plague my system. Looking around for RAM, I see that some vendors offer  DDR2 ECC 800MHz 240 Pin and others FB-DIMMs. Are these types the same, compatible or not?
