Can both myself and my wife use our ipad

My wife and I would like to use our iPad (we have separate e-mail addresses) when on holiday, or on other occasions when one of our Macs is busy etc.

I believe this is possible. How do I set it up ? Appreciate help, and a step by step procedure, if that exists. Many thanks

if both of you use same apple id, then it will be very simple

make sure you set it up properly on settings- itunes & app store and sign in with your account

if you both have seperate apple id's, you will be able to use it fine, but whenever you need to buy an app or update an existing app, you have to go to settings- itunes&app store, log out of the acount, and then log in with yours.

sorry if its a bit confusing.

PS: for normal things like using internet or play in the applications or stuff like that you dont have to worry

PPS: for viewing email you can go into settings- mail, contacts calendars and setup both account. you will then be receiving both of your emails on the same device.

Her account id is correct shown on that screen (it's not her email address that is wrong) ? Only her current password should work.

If the account is set up in the Mail program on your or her Mac (and it successfully accesses her account) then you might be able to find the password on that Mac by going into Keychain Access (which should be in Applications > Utilities). Select 'login' under 'Keychains' on the top left of that, and 'Passwords in the 'Category' section underneath it on the left. That will hopefully list the passwords that are set on the Mac, and there will hopefully be lines with '.mail' in them (or with a blue @ symbol). Try selecting one of them and do 'get-info' (control-I), and if you've selected the one for her account tick the 'show password' box at the bottom left of the popup (and type in your Mac's password if prompted).

If that doesn't find it then you or she could check if you think that you have the correct password by trying to log into her account on your provider's website. If it works there then it should work in Settings on the iPad.

An iPad is effectively a single-user device, so you can only have one set of apps and content on it (any content from the iTunes store will be tied to the account that downloaded it, so only that account would be able to download updates its app).

For emails you can add multiple accounts to the Mail app via Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account, or you can go to the accounts login pages on Safari and add homescreen shortcuts for those login pages - the Mail appp isn't protected so all emails in it are accessible to anybody who uses the iPad ; via Safari means that you have to enter your account id and password to access your email account.

Thankyou for setting me on the right road. I have chosen to go the Settings route and have had partial success, but still missing something important.

Present situation:

Default Account shows both names, with a tick beside mine

Under "Mail,Contacts, Calendars" , Accounts show both e-mail addresses. 'Mail' and 'Notes' are 'ON' in both.

On the startup screen "Mail" shows a figure of 16

Opening mail shows

All inboxes 16

Myself 8

Wife 8

and this is repeated under the heading "Accounts"

Opening either shows 8 mails addressed to me, none to my wife. I have sent her, previously, a short message which should appear somewhere.

Checking each "Account" input (I suspect this is where I am wrong)

myself: Name Me

e-mail Mine

Description My email address

incoming server Host imap.orange.fr

User name my e-mail address

Password my password

Outgoing smtp.orange.fr

Advanced blank

my wife:

Name Me

e-mail my wife's e-mail

description my wife's e-mail

Host imap.orange.fr

User my e-mail address ???

Password wife's password

Outgoing etc, same as for myself.

Sorry for lengthy note, but I will appreciate your advice.

The settings for your wife's account should be her details - so the details for her account should be

Name her name

e-mail your wife's e-mail

description your wife's e-mail, or any other description (this is what appears on the account in the Mail app)

Host imap.orange.fr

User your wife's e-mail address

Password your wife's password

Outgoing etc, same as for you

So it looks where you have the '???' is where you are going wrong (though you should set the account to have hew 'Name') - if that is set to your email address then it is probably reading your emails which is why both are showing as '8'. Try changing it (you should be able to select the account in Settings) and see if it then picks up her emails

Getting close, and again thankyou. The problem looks like to be her password. I have tried 3 previous with no luck, and she does not remember making a change.

Can I find it with iPad ? or on her/my Mac ? Give her a new one ?

Would prefer to find the current one for the iPad, which we should recognise immediately, (and see where we went wrong doing something we shouldn'tve.
