Problems with IMAP

Does there exist a definitive set of steps that can be followed to sucessfully set up an IMAP email server using "Server" for "Mountain Lion"? Every one that I've tried has not really helped me to resolve the problem. I've exhausted my knowledge.

Problem: While I am able to send an email from my server, I am unable to receive one. With wireshark running, I do see mail coming into my server system, but for some reason, it is being stopped or rejected and is never delivered to my local running email account. The logs don't seem to contain any helpfull information (at least to me)

Thanks

iMac (27-inch Late 2009), OS X Server, OSX 10.8.4 (Server 2.2.1)

Before I got further down the path, my drive crashed. Once back up, I set up a mail server using standard Mountain Lion, without OSX Server (Much simpler than the convolution that Server adds).

I did initially have the same problem though. And, I believe that it was due to the main.cf entry of:

relayhost = $mydomain

Once commented out, messages were delivered to the client app.
