I can't put music on my new iPhone 4S?

So I bought a new iPhone 4S yesterday, and I was going to put some of my music on it from iTunes on my PC. I synced it with the USB cable and was able to get all my apps, but no music. I had selected manually manage songs already, then it would sync and clear my checked box. I will add i have had no problems syncing music with my ipad 3. Then I thought I would try to get the music from the purchased area of iTunes on my phone. It downloaded the songs, but then when I checked the music app again, there was nothing. I've tried restarting both my iphone and my computer multiple times, but that hasn't helped. My main question would be how can I fix this to get music from my iTunes on my phone and PC?
