I am assuming that you have your AirPort Extreme connected to your modem with an Ethernet cable.

Try connecting your MacBook Pro to one of the LAN <-> ports using another spare Ethernet cable.

Restart the modem, AirPort Extreme and MacBook, then try the update again.

    Report on your results.

I was able to down load the firmware after unplugging AirPort Extreme and shtting down the MacBook (did not touch the modem) and connecting with an ethernet cable.  Much thanks.  I switched from a paired phone/DSL with AT&T to direct DSL, but am still uisng the same 2007 Westell DSL2+Router.  That weems redundent to me.  Do you kow if I can I use the AirPort Extreem directly from the ethernet cable coming into the house?  Paul in Far West South Carolina.  Have you been to Becton, TX?

Is that an Ethernet cable, or is that a phone cable?  The AirPort Extreme does not have a modem on board, so you must use a separate modem with the Extreme.

Been to Lubbock and Amarillo many times, but never to Becton.
