I am using keynote i9 on macbook air os x, v 10.8
The file I'm trying to open is 3mb in size, but was originally made for powerpoint - .ppt file extension.
Does anyone know how I can open the file or increase the memory of keynote? Thanks,

Keynote should be able to open it without any problem. What happens when you try to open the file in Keynote.
If you can't do it from Finder, open Keynote, go to File menu (on the menu bar) > Open, and look for the PowerPoint file
An error box opens which says "Import Error - Out of memory"
Im opening from a USB drive and have tried to open directly in keynote and from finder.

Copy the file to Desktop or Documents folder and open it from there
I tried this but still get the same error.
I did notice that a copy was made in the document folder I was opening from though when I tried to open it!?!
Do as mende suggests. Keynote must convert it, thus create another file, so there must be at least as much space left on the USB stick as the size of the document.
Also, it may not be able to write to the USB stick for some reason, though the error doesn't seem to match that.
thanks, but the size of the hard disk in the macbook is 120GB and I've only used 33.59GB! I don't have much experience using keynote but havent had any problems with other files but its only 5 weeks old!
There could be something in the powerpoint that it doesn't understand or it may be corrupt.
You could try opening it with OpenOffice or NeoOffice (both free, or were).
