I couldn't sleep (mumble, grumble), so thought I'd check back.

Thanks for posting that in my absence.

This discussion on how to restore some items from a time machine backup just saved me.  My MacBook Pro HD crashed.  I didn't want to completely restore the old HD contents but wanted some things from it, like my photos.  With your instructions, I was able to save them to my desktop on another computer.

    A thousand thanks!

I have a simliar question... I hope Pondini sees it in the forums. I have lost 55 GB of photos and they wont appear in iphoto even though they must be saved on Time Capsule....

Sad to reply that Pondini passed away September 26th, 2013.  He was a great contributer and I appreciated his skill and benefited from his suggestions.

I bought a 1TB WD My Passport for Mac. My MAC desktop is a 2009 model and just slowed by thosands of pictures and documents...So, it was just time to back it up. It backed up like a charm using Time Machine and I used about half of the 1TB. I love simpicity. I hope everything is on the backup because I trashed everything on the internal hard drive...(I believe in technology). OK, that is why my name is Unsavy.  Just for curioisty, I enterred time machine found the backup.backup and opened it up but I can't find the am convinced the files must be in that little silver Passport. Sheesh, curiosity killed the cat. So, I started reading all the posts and l am a bit sorry I used time machine despite its elegant hum when backing up every few minutes. I could have just used it as a thumb drive. DoI need to buy another computer to resurrect and enjoy the photos? There is nothing left on the internal hard drive that I need, if that helps. Maybe my name should have been knuckle head. Can you help?
