i need to get a new wifi card for my mac air. do i have to buy this from a apple store? i live fare away from an apple store.

Consider yourself lucky that your MacBook is still working. Now, turn it off. Wine may have damaged other parts of your computer.

Then, take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller. It will be a very expensive repair, as it's not covered by warranty and the logic board has to be replaced. In some cases, it may be better to get a new MacBook.

Actually the airport cards ARE replaceable without the need for an open heart transplant

- they are socketed cards !

That said a service inspection certainly needed,

Keith, the problem is that wine could damage any other part, and I don't believe that only the AirPort card is damaged (I knew that AirPort cards were replaceable). The logic board and keyboard should also be damaged, or at least, the logic board. Apple will detect this and will replace the whole logic board, and if it's not replaced, be careful because your Mac may stop working at any moment. That's what the experience says

Just pointing out that the airport card is NOT soldered !

In fact the Macbook air is pretty easy to strip other than the glued battery !
