How do I draw b/w sketches?

See my blog at http://paulwigmore.co.uk , open MUSINGS and scroll down 5 posts to 'Growing Up'. This is a sketch I created with Applworks 6. Appleworks is now constantly crashing and no longer useable. I need to continue producing drawings like this, using Pages. I am nearly 90 and I find the instructions for the Draw process impossible to understand. Is there anyone who'd be prepared to grant me online step-by-step instructions for findiong the right tools for getting results like my sample? This increasingly stupid old man would be enormously grateful!
