Correct. There are two ways of running Windows on a Mac: with a virtual machine or with Boot Camp. To know which one is better for you > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3321 Depending on your needs, choose one or the other one.
In any of these cases you need a full or System Builder Windows version, that you can buy at Amazon or NewEgg. In the case you want to install Windows in Boot Camp, note that your Mac supports only some Windows versions > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If you decide to install Windows on a virtual machine, make sure you have at least 4 GB of RAM. You will need them, as the virtual machine will take a lot of RAM. Also, you can use Parallels, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox to create a virtual machine. As VirtualBox is free, try it first.
If you decide to install Windows with Boot Camp, Boot Camp Assistant (in /Applications/Utilities) will guide you through the steps of downloading the Windows support software and partititioning the drive. Follow these steps > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf
