how to calculate duration in minutes and seconds

Hi,

I'm new to using functions in spreadsheets and trying to construct one to keep track of daily exercise routine stats. So far, I've unable to successfully set up cells to compute elapsed time, from start to finish and return the duration. This is as far as I've gotten. I know I'm doing more than one thing wrong but don't know how to climb out of the hole I dug for myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

All the best,

David

Hi David,

Here's an example, using your start and finish times above:

User uploaded file

Columns B and C are formatted as: Date and Time, Date: none, Time: 7:08:09 PM

Column D is formatted as shown in the image.

Formula in D2: =C-B

If you haven't yet done so, I strongly recommend downloading and reading at least the first four chapters of the Numbers '09 User Guide, avaliable through the Help menu in Numbers '09.

Regards,

Barry
