Q: After updating firmware to 7.6.4, now none of my wired airports show up in the airport utility and I can't reach them through airplay. ***?

I have an ATT Uverse wireless network with 4 airport express to push AirPlay. Three are connected to the router via Cat5. The 4th is connected by joining the wireless network.

After upgrading the firmware to 7.6.4, NONE of the airports with wired connections can be seen by the airport utility nor can I reach them through AirPlay unless my mac book is also connected to the network via the Cat5 cable.  My one airport connected via wifi IS visible in the utility AND I can reach it through AirPlay.

I could not use the wired airports to extend the ATT router and I can only join the wireless network with the Cat5 unpluged.

Can anyone shed light on what is happening?  Must the Airports now be connected via the wifi only?  Why did the new firmware update make that change?

Thanks,

Javier

    Javier,

Your post did not indicate whether you had performed a complete power cycle of the entire network after you updated the AirPort devices.

Did you power off the entire network, wait a few minutes, then start the Uverse first for a minute, then start other devices one at a time about a minute apart until the entire network was back up?

If not, that would be a good first troubleshooting step to perform.

I did the whole system shut down and restart. That was first. Suddenly, I am able to play to all. I'm not going to jinx it at this point and just resolve to be happy.  Ahh the mystery of the Apple Black White Box.

It is amazing that simply powering everything off and then powering back up in sequence will fix about half of all network problems.

A power cycle was the first thing I did. No difference.  I just waited an hour or so and tried to select the speakers in itunes and it just worked.  I'm afraid to open the utility. I'm just going to leave it alone.

which is such an easy thing to do. (that's sarcasm). i imagine the horror if i shut my switches off for 60s at a time.

4s is enough to power cycle an apple airport, never is a good time for a switch.
