The MacBook Pro with Retina display comes with a HDMI port, so you don't need any adapter.

If you have a 13-inch MacBook Pro without Retina display, you have to buy a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable, as there's no HDMI port on it. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US Image will start showing in the TV automatically after connecting the cable. If you have an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro, you have to connect the Mini DisplayPort adapter to the Thunderbolt port, which use the same connector.

Note that if you have a Mid 2009 13-inch MacBook Pro, sound won't be transferred to your TV

You need aThunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapteron the non-Retina model.

Apple used to sell one that was $30 more and of lower quality than the one from Monoprice. They no longer sell it (fortunately).

I have been using the Monoprice adapter and it works well.

I did run into a problem however. The adapter was not working. It turned out the display port in my Macbook was dirty and causing a bad connection. Solution was to blow out the macbook display port with a can of air which I purchased at Walmart.
