    Welcome to Apple Support Communities

It's the fault of the company that created the app. The MacBook Pro with Retina display uses a very high resolution so apps have to change all their icons to support it, but you are wrong: both Photoshop and iPhoto are compatible with Retina display.

Respecting to Photoshop, Adobe added Retina display support in Photoshop CS6 with the 13.0.2 update. If you are using Photoshop CS6, you can download this update for free, and if you are using an older version, upgrade to it.

Respecting to iPhoto, iPhoto '11 (the version that comes with the MacBook Pro with Retina display) also supports Retina display. Open  > Software Update, and install the most recent iPhoto version
