How do I connect a HP 20wm monitor

I just brought a HP 20 wm monitor for my mac mini however I cannot get it to worll please help me firgure out what I am doing wrong.

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

What inputs does your HP monitor have? VGA? DVI? HDMI?

How have you tried already to connect it to your mini? Which output from the mini are you using? Any adapters?

VGA, I am using a VGA adapter, also a DVD came with monitor the mini does not have a DVD drive.

A Mini does not have a VGA out connection. To what Mini video out are you connecting the adopter.

Also, what model Mini do you have? the viedo out depends upon the model
