how do I delete an icon, not an app, from launchpad in Mountain Lion
I want to delete an icon, but not the app itself, from the launchpad of my MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.4. How can I do that?
MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

You can't do that in Launchpad. You can create a separate group for "unwanted" apps to keep them out of the way, but clicking Delete will always delete the app itself from your system (provided it's an App Store app; you cannot delete applications that were installed independently).

the following article tells how to do this:

also these article is overview for launchpad:

🙂
That procedure actually deletes the app from the system not just from launchpad. Not what the OP is looking to do.

you are correct, the title led me to believe it was a resolution 😕 sorry bout that LOL, thanks for the info!
You can't remove an icon from Launchpad, but you can restore the Launchpad to default settings and the icon will be removed. Simply drag the apps you want to show in Launchpad to the Launchpad icon in the Dock.
Open Terminal and type:
rm ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db
It's safe to run this command
Since I don't want to delete the app, I don't want to get into Terminal, I don't want to delete everything and then drag back in the apps I do use, I moved the 3 icons I don't wanted to a "new" final page.
In that case, you can't do anything
Not sure from your description if this is what you are doing but it is possible to create folders of apps in launchpad. If you drag one icon on top of another then those two icons will be in a folder. Then you drag other icons on top of the folder they will be added to it and removed from the main view.
This might be a cleaner solution then adding the unwanted apps to new page.
