Having a week-long event that shows a week number isn't the same thing as built-in feature. For instance the Calendar.app on Mac OS has a built-in option that allows one to put a numbered label on each week, an option that the iOS calendar lacks. According to the Mac built-in British English dictionary, a hack can be «a piece of computer code which performs some function, especially an unofficial alternative or addition to a commercial program». I'd say this is a hack, unless I'm fundamentally misunderstanding something. But we can agree to disagree.

This followed my original comment where I said «iOS 8 brings it» [this feature], but maybe it wasn't clear. Yes, iOS 8 is not out yet for the public, I agree, and I did not pretend to say it was. But the latest iOS 8 beta does include that functionality and I merely wanted to convey this information with my post – it was clear from your almost year-old posting that there is a solution to the original question.
