Q: Airport Extreme not working

I bought a new airport extreme which doesnt work with my macbook. the router is an iball.

pls help as it seems $200 has gone to waste.

    Ok, thank you. Unless you will use a wired connection between the two router, you will NOT be able to extend the wireless range of the iBall with the Extreme as the two routers are incompatible for the AirPort's "extend" feature.

     

    If they can be interconnected by Ethernet, they can be set up as a "roaming" network.

     

    So to answer your initial question, if they must be interconnected by wireless, then yes, you "wasted" your money.

    yes it is to extend the range of the iBall

    it will be connected to iBall by ethernet

    i think you write your reply before i wrote that both iBall and airport are connected through ethernet cable

    No problem. Then the roaming network link I provided should be the solution to your network setup. Be sure to perform a "factory default" reset on the new Extreme. This will put it back into its default configuration which is it will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a network name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN.

     

    Your MacBook Pro should "see" this as a new AirPort Extreme under the OS X menu bar's AirPort icon drop-down menu. Select it and the AirPort Utility should start up automatically. From there you will want to choose Other Options > Add to an existing network
