itunes library missing

I have just purchased a new mac air and have thought I had correctly installed my library BUT I have less songs in my library than I do on my devices - iphone and ipod.

How has this happened and how do I transfer ALL the songs from my iphone to my Library to recover the missing songs!

The same happens with my ipod.

This is very frustrating!

I also have lots of playlist on my devices which do not copy onto my MAC, does this mean I have to start all over again and create these on my PC ? I just want to copy everything to my MAC. HOW?

Thank you! but how complicated.

No, it is very simple.

Connect the computer & run Migration Assistant. It copies all your user data from old computer to new.

You aren't interested in any of your user data (settings, emails, contacts, calendars & documents) except for your iTunes music?

Can´t I just tell my mac air to read and save all the music stored on my iphone so this becomes my new library instead of having to use migration assistant?

You can but not everything transfers. Only iTunes purchases.

Connect the iPhone and open iTunes.

Go to File > Devices, select your iphone then Transfer purchases. Notet that nothing else will transfer over.
