Q: Ipod Classic viewing a red x not connecting to itunes

My ipod one day started showing a red "x" with a circle around telling me to go to apple.com/support/ipod. I did this and cant find anything pertaining to my particular situation. Hooked up to the computer it still wont do anything. Lights up when you connect it but then it blacks back out. I dont know what to do

iPod classic, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

The article below explains what to do when you come across the Red X icon. The steps are outlined below.

iPod Displays a Red "X" Icon

Restore iPod from Disk Mode
Disconnect iPod from your computer.
Manually put iPod into Disk Mode.
Open the latest version of iTunes and connect iPod.
Restore iPod.
