iTunes Match Cloud with Lightning

Can anyone please tell me what this symbol means?


Match has been working for me for over a year, but recently both the macs that I use have this lighning symbol in the cloud next to the Music playlist in my Library.


I am using iTunes 11.0.5 on OS X 10.8.4

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion, 13" Late 2011 8GB RAM

That means there is no connection to iCloud.

That's strange, because I do seem to be connected. (I am certainly connected to the Intenet, and I have tried rebooting my cable modem and AirPort in anticipation of this answer.)


If I click on the symbol, it briefly goes stripey and I can see a blip of communications with one of the iTunes/Store servers. It just as quickly goes back.


If I select Update iTunes Match, all appears to complete normally.


(I have also tried resetting the iTunes Store cache and restarting the Mac, but nothing changes...)
