I have it all plugged in - Open Import, turn the camera to VCR, and the camera isn't showing up. I have turned it off, back on, unplugged, replugged, etc. I am using a Firewire 800 9-pin to 4-pin.
NOTE* I plugged in another mini cam I have and it recognized it right away.

Jump into the FX1 menu settings and check the output settings.
I'd suggest Auto.

They are on Auto.
Try the output that matches the footage on the tape.
Is the cable the same as used with the other camera?

This one I am using a Firewire, the other was a USB connected to the computer. I just bought a new cable from Bestbuy. The camera doesn't even show up on the computer desktop. Is there another program I can try?
Some cables do not work correctly and it's also possible the port on the camera is faulty.
We need to confirm if there is some communication occurring.
Open the system Profiler and see if the camera is recognised on the FireWire tree.

Im in System Profiler...Not sure where to look to see if it is recognized.
You should see your camera on the Firewire Bus.
Mine shows a GV-HD700E: recognized, yours should see the FX 1 here.

Nope, that is not on there.
This will mean there is a problem with sockets or cables or possibly a camera menu setting.
What brand is your firewire cable?

We have had more than one user that has had NO communication with that brand.
I strongly suspect we have found the culprit.
Test again with another brand of firewire cable.

I Suggest you use this free software mpeg streamclip.
Streamclip won't get it off the tape.
