What is the make & model of this wireless router? What is the model number of the Express? Do you have the Express connected to the wireless router by Ethernet or by wireless?

    Also what is airport extreme?

The AirPort Extreme is another model of Apple routers. It has some additional features that the Express does not have and can support more users simultaneously. Check out the following Apple Support Specifications article on the latest 802.11ac AirPort Extreme for details.

I have my airport express wired by ethernet cable. The router is a Verizon router. The airport express is 7.6.4.

I wondered if having another airport express in another part of the house would increase the wireless power in the house.

One option to improve wireless coverage in your home would be to configure additional base stations in a "roaming" network configuration. You can then add on additional base stations where you need coverage.

Not sure what you mean by configure more base stations. Also not sure what a roaming network is? I'm not in your pay grade.

The link should provide you more information about roaming networks.

Basically a roaming network consists of multiple wireless routers or access points that are interconnected by Ethernet to provide Wi-Fi coverage over large areas.

The term roaming is used as you can literally roam with a laptop between these routers and still be on the "same" wireless network.

By "configuring more base stations" I mean adding additional base stations to this roaming type network.

So if I have an airport express in one end of the house and put one in the other end of the house and have them on the same router, is this what you are talking about?

Is there a way to check to see how good my wireless is in different parts of the house? Some kind of test.

An excellent utility.....that unfortunately costs a few dollars and some change....is WiFi Explorer.

If you decide to make the invesment.....well worth it in my opinion.....post back for a few tips. I have no interest in WiFi Explorer other than that as a customer.

In addition to Bob's comments, you can also perform tests with utilities already built-in OS X. Please check out the following AirPort User Tip for details.
